If you take your kids to WalMart, you will find yourself with PLENTY of teachable moments. This would imply that I broke 2 Cardinal rules in parenting 1. going to this fine establishment in the first place and 2. making my children accompany me. This morning I was guilty of breaking both rules. Everyone in Walmart is pissed to be there. Why people can't hunker down, embrace the fact that we are all in this rolled back boat together, and BE NICE is beyond me...but it is in fact the case. I asked a woman to move with a peppy, high pitched "excuse me" and she barely looked my way and continued her conversation. Again, with the "excuse me" and she barely moved over a millimeter so that I could barely fit my cart (containing a carrier with a most precious 6 month old inside) past her. I said "Thanks" and gave her an eye roll where she promptly responded(on volume 180) "If this is the worst thing that happens to you, then you need to get a life lady." I replied "So true, if this is the worst happening of my day and I don't have to be as rude as you today, then I am indeed blessed. have a lovely day". Alone, I would have shrugged this off, but it REALLY bothered my son. He has been asking me all morning why she was so mean, he seriously can't stop thinking about it.
So, rude woman(because I can't in good conscience refer to you as a lady) in WalMart this morning, I pose this question: I was sweaty and gross from the gym, what was your excuse?

When I raise my voice in public my mom always says, Be quiet, you sound like the Wal-mart people. What a hateful lady - bless her heart....
ReplyDeleteHa Ha!
ReplyDeletePrecisely why I hate Walmart. Good for you saying that back to her. I mean really, she couldn't move a few inches??
ReplyDeleteI do not understand why people have to be so mean and rude! Esp in front of young children! I can't stand to walk into Wal-Mart. It is always so crowded and everyone is in such a rush. Glad you posted this! What is so hard about moving so someone can pass by? I am glad you said something back to her! You go girl!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm amazing by how rude people can be and glad that you held your ground with her. You sound like my kind of gal. Really, that was her outfit? Perhaps, that is why is was so angry?
ReplyDeleteSo sorry. As if the Wal-Mart experience isn't bad enough on its own.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the laugh. I hate to laugh at your expense but really, where do these people even come from? I agree with your 2 Cardinal rules. Target doesn't carry rude people!
ReplyDeleteAw, if only this were exclusive to Walmart..I deal w rude people on a daily basis...refuse to stoop to their level...
ReplyDeleteif we would all just BE NICE..the world would be a completely different place, no?
