Are you watching Jamie Oliver's noble attempt at overhauling school lunches in the USA?

Are you as abhorred and frightened by what he has to work with as I am? As a parent of a child who will be entering elementary school in another very short year, I am obsessed with this show. I am also obsessed with southern food and that way of preparing it, so you can see where some internal conflict might be keeping me up at night. All Jamie Oliver is saying is the same idea that everyone else professes to live by "Everything in Moderation", but he's actually practicing what he preaches. I love his dedication to this cause, but each week my heart breaks for him over the hurdles he is having to face just trying to save our children. The lunch ladies are so awful to him, and I won't lie, they are SCARY. I'm hoping for a definite Food Revolution, are you watching to see if he can make a change?
I just love this show. I find myself getting so overwhelmed by the unbelievable challenges he faces. I really admire his effort though. Hopefully it will open peoples eyes and get his movement going all across the country.
ReplyDeleteHave you checked out the Edible Schoolyard projects popping up at schools. Amazing!!!
Happy Easter!
Um, yes, I've very intrigued. And I'm especially interested in all of this crazy that is being cooked, or undercooked I should say, for our children. It makes me want to prep my children's food everyday instead of let them eat it! They don't start elementary school for a couple of years, so hopefully that will give his show some impact on our cafeterias before then. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the show! And I've always packed lunches myself (actually hub does it!)
ReplyDeleteI watched this when he did it in the UK...it was amazing!
ReplyDeleteI am watching this one now and I just keep thinking thank goodness someone is going to save these children from a life of obesity and disease!
