High School lasts for four years, but Facebook is forever...

Have you seen the article on CNN.com about annoying facebook habits? So amusing. Please read. Don't get me wrong. I love the FB. I love seeing pictures of friends' kids that I would otherwise never see. It has been fun to catch up with people whom you accidentally just lost contact with over the years. I'm all for it. What I currently cannot stand about the phenomenon is the one upmanship that comes along with so many status updates. The veiled way of saying that you have more than someone else without actually having to parade your new car around the high school parking lot. I logged on with my morning chai tea latte hoping to find some adorable pictures of friends' weekends or make a playdate and instead found a "friend's" update on another "friend's" wall stating her disbelief at how she had moved out of the neighborhood she had lived in for a number of years, but how worth it the decision was because her kids now would not know what to do without a pool in the back yard. Because that's the way most conversations start, "Hi, how have you been for the past ten years. I have a pool. You don't. Take Care, now. I didn't say 5 words to you in high school. Did I mention I have a pool? That will not get the thumbs up from me, because I don't "like" that. Tell me how Sally is walking or Bobby hit a homerun. Please don't include your W-2.

  1. OMG, I couldn't agree more. I have a FB friend whose daily status updates are like those annoying Christmas card newsletters you get. You know the ones I am talking about--the ones that tell you how many times the couple has sex a day, how many wonderful vacations they take, how much money he makes, how much they are in love. Like we said in high school, "Gag me with a spoon!"
