and then his head spins around 3 times...

wait for the split pea soup to shoot out of his mouth....that's what our dinner time is like. A scene from Poltergeist, or is it The Exorcist? Either way its what our dinner time resembles as of late. Our 4 year old is a monster at dinner. Lately he's been getting plenty of sleep because he acts like such an ass clown at the table that he gets sent to bed. Last Friday night I was scraping Panko off of elbow macaroni so he would eat macaroni and cheese(What fool doesn't appreciate panko encrusted pasta?) Ridiculous. Until Ann B. Davis comes knocking at our door ready to reprise the ever popular role of The Brady's housekeeper Alice, I refuse to make him a separate meal unless we are eating something that really is rather out of the range of the 4 year old palette. So we have stopped any fast food (I try not to do that more than once a week anyway)until we can get him under control. The rule at the table is "You Don't have to like it, but you have to try it" and it makes me want to rip my hair out most of the time because watching him choke down the food I prepare every night saying "This is disgusting" hurts my feelings (i know, he's 4, that is the tip of the iceberg) and just honestly infuriates me. What else can I do? I need help with this one, because I WILL raise a gentleman!

  1. I hear ya! We have the same rule. You at least have to try it and this is the only meal we are making. My 3yo is great. My 2 yo is a different story. I feel bad that he is going to bed hungry at night but he has to learn. He also gets upset when his sister gets a cookie and he doesn't, but we feel it is the only way he will learn.

It will improve. It's just an age thing. If my 3yo could she would eat chicken nuggets and mac n cheese every day. It's just the age.

    Good luck!

  3. Hang in there! I definitely think that the less you do fast food regularly the better they eat (less picky). We do much less takeout. I try to have something at every meal that I know he will eat (think veggie, fruit, or starch). Mine is not too fussy overall so when I make something I know he doesn't like I will let him eat more of the sides. I always make my kids taste things because as they grow their tastebuds change. My 11 yo has always been a very picky eater, but as he has gotten older he is much more adventurous and likes many things he didn't used to like.
