On tipping, or anything you want to talk about. I overtip, always have. 20% is easier math to figure out and makes me feel like the waiter isn't spitting in my food, the ladies at the nail salon are really saying nice things about me in a language I can't translate(sure), my hairdresser really does wash the towels on the "sanitize" cycle, etc. I think it's more for me than the waiter or waitress. 15% if the service is bad...I know I've never just not left a tip. I think it's optional in the sense that it's your option what amount to leave, but always something. I just feel like its a good thing to throw back out there in the universe(I know that sounds SO cheesy). How much do you tip?
I am with you. I always tip big or at least 15% if the service is bad. I even throw a dollar or 2 in the starbucks jar each week.
ReplyDeleteHere's to big tippers!!! :)
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am 20% tipper too. It is the easiest to add and I always want to give to anyone who is providing a service.
ReplyDeleteI am with you on giving back to the universe..as it always comes back.
Have you ever do lunch with someone who is a cheap tipper?? I always end up making up for the difference!!
xxxx me
I'm right there with you. I always tip 20%, more if the service was especially good and 15% if it was not. I tip my nail techs more than 20% because I'm a regular and they do extra for me to make their tip good (longer massages, etc) so it's worth it.
ReplyDeleteBut the one thing that confuses me is the rule that you don't have to tip if it's the owner. I feel really cheap not tipping my stylist b/c it's her shop. Thoughts on this???
From a server... THANK YOU! :0) We appreciate 15% tippers, let a lone 20% plus! Now, will you come sit in my section already!?
ReplyDeleteHaving worked in the service industry for 7 years- I started at the ripe age of 15- I ALWAYS over tip- what's one more dollar to me? when, in reality, if everyone did that for that server, she might come out making some actual money that night! It's absolutely the hardest job being at the mercy of someone who is going to decide how much you should make for doing your job is so frusterating! I vote for the European mentality and they just pay they servers hefty hourly wages, and forgo the whole tipping thing!!! Nice post!!
ReplyDeleteWe're good to over tippers for the most part, BUT as an ex-server and cook...nothing makes me madder then bad service. Grrrr. It's not hard to do your job right and with a smile. It won't kill you.
ReplyDeleteI'm a 20% or a bit more kinda gal. 15 if it's really crappy service. I could never not leave a tip. I've been a server and no that everyone has an off day.
